Most of us remember Benjamin Franklin’s old English adage, “Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. I’m not sure how many of you have tried this, but my guess is that most of us don’t have a choice. For those of us that actually have to work for a living, coupled with the fact that most of us have a family, sleeping in isn’t an option for us. To make matters worse, those of us that work in the Austin area that have to drive to work every morning, have to leave 45 minutes to an hour earlier than we did just a few years ago, just to make it to work on time.
The good news is that this is the one time of the year that we can potentially catch up on an hour of sleep, due to the fact that we set our clocks back one hour before we turn out the lights on Nov. 6th.
For those of you that may have forgotten our modern rationale behind Daylight Savings Time, it has to do with the time of day that people begin and end work or school and the coordination of mass transit. With an extra hour of sunlight, individuals supposedly have the opportunity of getting a little more done on their personal time. Again, “not to beat a dead horse”, but for those of us that live in the Austin metroplex, it really doesn’t seem to matter any longer, what time we get up, what time we leave the house and/or what time we leave the office to head back home. Whatever time it is, we are more than likely going to be faced with a massive amount of traffic to get from point A to point B, unless of course you live in a half million to a million dollar condo downtown Austin and you can either walk or ride your bike to work.
So what am I leading up to for those of your reading this blog that have a business? It’s almost time to change the time on your business phone system and/or voice mail system. For those of you that have upgraded your system in the last 4-5 years, you probably have nothing to worry about. Also, if you have a “hosted” system, the time should change automatically for you. However, for the rest of you that are “in love” with that phone system you purchased 10 plus years ago and no one can talk you into upgrading to a better, more cost effective system, you will need to contact the company that manages your phone system for you. For those of you that have a system that you purchased from Mercury Communications, you can give us a call or simply jump on our web site, click on the “Support” tab and then click on “Time Change”.
So remember, November 6th is the day you can plan to “Fall back one hour” and catch up on that hour of sleep you lost when we had to set our clocks ahead in the Spring.
Last but not least, if you would like a no obligation assessment of your phone system, dial tone and internet service and your network, please contact our office at 512-467-7227 and you will be connected to an expert in your industry that can assist you with options for your future communications needs and requirements.
