I had the privilege of attending this year’s NEC Advantage conference and I came away with more than I had expected. As most of you know who are reading this blog, Mercury Communications of Austin has been selling and servicing NEC systems for over 25 years in the Austin and Central Texas area.
You may want to go ahead and put on your seatbelt because I’m getting ready to take you for a ride that is going to “blow you away”. While most of our competition is gradually fading away or has filed for bankruptcy (AVAYA), NEC continues to move forward with technological advances that are leaving our competition “in the dust”.
The topics I want to share in this brief blog are just a glimpse of what was shared at this year’s NEC Advantage conference. Here are some of the topics that were covered:
Cloud and Hybrid Services
NEC provides some of the most feature rich UCaaS packages in the industry. They also provide the end user with three separate Cloud packages, which include: Basic User (all basic telephone features, LD and voice mail), Standard User (includes all of the basic user features, plus Unified Messaging, DID, UC Client and PSTN Mobility) and the Premium User (adds Mobility-PSTN & SMP and additional device licenses). Included in NEC’s wheelhouse is their SV9100 BLUE solution. This option provides features that Cloud offers, with the reliability of a premise-based system. So for those of you that haven’t “bought into the cloud” yet and you still want the ability to take advantage of the Opex model over the Capex and have the reliability of a key or hybrid model, this is the option for you.
Last but not least, is the SIP Trunk offerings through NEC. So even if you are not ready to enjoy the privileges of being an NEC and Mercury Communications of Austin customer for whatever reason, you can still purchase your SIP trunks through Mercury Communications of Austin and NEC and receive some of the most aggressive pricing in the industry.
Smart IT Solutions
Some interesting facts that our readers may or may not be aware of are the following: 90% of the digital data in the world has been created in the last 2 years, 500,000+ Worldwide Data Centers are creating 1PB of Data every 15 Seconds, Worldwide volume of data is expected to grow by 50% Each Year, and the Total Data generated on the planet is: 2.8ZB in 2012, 8ZB in 2015 and 44ZB in 2020.
These facts and numbers are staggering and, like we tell our customers, unless you embrace this technology very soon, you will be one of those companies in a few years hanging an “office for lease” sign in your window and scratching your head, wondering what happened.

NEC’s offering includes Servers (General Purpose, Fault Tolerant, Enterprise and Scalable Modular), Storage (Production SAN and Backup Archive Deduplication), Network (Software Defined Networking (SDN), Software (Disaster Recovery and Clustering).
For those of you that may not be familiar with who all NEC has aligned themselves with, here are just a few examples of who they have worked with to provide “best of breed solutions” for: Oracle, Veritas, VEEAM, Iron Mountain, VMware, DELL, Redhat, and Microsoft.
